Microsoft Entra ID rejected the sign-in because the account is locked, often after too many failed attempts or risk-based protection action.

  • The account is locked after repeated failed sign-in attempts.
  • Microsoft Entra protection controls blocked the account because of risk or suspicious activity.
  • The user is trying to authenticate while the account is still in a locked state.
  1. Review the user sign-in logs and account state in Microsoft Entra.
  2. Follow the organization's unlock or password reset workflow if the account is locked.
  3. Investigate whether conditional access or identity protection contributed to the lock.
