Adobe Creative Cloud installation failed with Error 8 on macOS

The gccustomhook process failed to update the permission settings for the Adobe Genuine Service plist file on macOS. This is a macOS-specific error caused by incorrect permissions on the LaunchDaemon plist file used by the Adobe Genuine Service.

  • The plist file for the Adobe Genuine Service (/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.adobe.agsservice.plist) has incorrect permissions.
  • The plist file was manually modified or has restrictive permissions from a previous installation.
  • The current user account does not have the rights to modify the system LaunchDaemons plist file.
  1. Open Terminal on macOS (Command + Spacebar, type Terminal).
  2. Run the command: sudo chmod 755 /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.adobe.agsservice.plist and enter your administrator password when prompted.
  3. Restart the system — the plist will load automatically and start the Adobe Genuine Service.
  4. Retry the Creative Cloud installation after the system has restarted.
