Adobe Creative Cloud installation failed with Errors 44 or 46

The installer is unable to read, write, or create a critical file or folder. These errors may occur due to locked files, interfering background processes, temporary system issues, or insufficient permissions.

  • A critical file or folder required by the installer is locked or in use by a background process.
  • Insufficient permissions prevent the installer from reading, writing, or creating files.
  • A temporary system issue is interfering with file system access during installation.
  1. Close all Adobe apps and ensure no Adobe background processes are running.
  2. Quit the installer, relaunch it, and try the installation again.
  3. If the error persists, restart the computer to release locked files and processes, then retry.
  4. If installing via the Creative Cloud desktop app, quit the app fully (File > Quit on Windows; Cmd+Q on macOS), relaunch it, and retry the installation.
  5. If the error continues, run the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool and perform a clean reinstall.
