Adobe Creative Cloud installation failed with Error 5 Error code: 5 The installer could not move the Adobe GC (Genuine Copy) files to their required location. The fix involves deleting the existing AdobeGCClient folder so the installer can lay down a fresh copy.
Observed message
Error code: 5 Why it happens
The installer cannot move or replace files in the AdobeGCClient folder. An existing, locked, or in-use version of the AdobeGCClient prevents the installer from writing new files. Adobe background processes are holding file handles open on the GCClient folder. How to fix it
Close all Adobe apps and ensure no Adobe background processes are running. Delete the AdobeGCClient folder at: Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\AdobeGCClient; macOS: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/AdobeGCClient. Relaunch the Creative Cloud desktop app and update it, which will recreate the AdobeGCClient folder with the correct files. When prompted, accept or deny the Adobe Genuine Service consent dialog according to your preference.
